Bio
Alan Pryor
Alan Pryor grew up on an almond ranch in California’s Central Valley before obtaining undergraduate degrees in biology and chemistry and a master's degree in Industrial Hygiene Engineering from the University of California. During and following an illustrious career developing new pollution control technologies and designing environmental control systems, Mr. Pryor became a devote of technical analysis of the futures markets. His initial efforts explored the use of classical chart patterns and Elliot Wave analysis.
Mr. Pryor focused his attentions on development of completely non-optimized systems that were backtested against a very diverse set of commodities using the exact same parameters for all systems. His hypothesis was that a system that was robust enough to show excellent long term historical backtest results with non-optimized parameters is more likely to perform well in the future.
This lead to the development of a number of well received mechanical systems in the late 1990s and early 2000s that have received industry accolades. Currently, Mr. Pryor is the President of longtermtrading.com which is a registered Commodity Trading Advisor (CTA) with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). He is also a member of the American Association of Professional Technical Analysts (AAPTA)..
System
Ready-Set-Go
Longtermtrading.com’s flagship system, Ready-Set-Go, is somewhat unique among long-term systems in that it will enter a long or short position based on very specific entry parameters and then exit the system when it is determined that the trend has run its course. It does not simply reverse from long to short and vice versa. Ready-Set-Go is reactive in that the system follows the markets by entering on strength and exits on a retracement exceeding a certain support or resistance level. It does not predict where the market is going but assumes if a market is rising it tend to keep rising.
One unique aspect of Ready-Set-Go is that it is market-adaptive and automatically changes the system’s sensitivity and adjusts parameters based on the strength of the underlying trend. Another unique aspect of Ready-Set-Go is that generates trading signals based on weekly bars rather than daily bar or intraday bar data. Mr. Pryor realized that the amount of noise inherent in the movement of futures prices in various markets was substantially reduced when one analyzed weekly commodity prices rather than daily or intraday prices.
FUTURE THOUGHTS ON OUR PROGRAM - Ready-Set-Go was introduced to the public in late 2000. This system is all the more remarkable because Ready-Set-Go still uses the exact same rules and parameters as when the system was originally introduced seven years ago, even through the tumultuous recent years when many long-term systems struggled.
For these reasons, the developers of Ready-Set-Go believe that it will fare at least as well as any other similar long-term systems when exposed to a broadly diverse group of commodities in the future. Of course, Ready-Set-Go, like every trading system, will be subject to drawdowns in the future just as it has seen in the past. Provided extreme diligence is exercised to prevent overtrading, however, Ready-Set-Go can serve as the foundation system for generating trading profits especially if, as some pundits predict, future price movements in commodity markets become even more pronounced but with shorter cyclic profiles compared to the recent to intermediate-term past.
The February 2007 issue of Futures Magazine displayed the Top 10 Trading Systems, which were research by George Pruitt of Futures Truth. PFG cannot verify the performance of the programs listed. The risk of loss in trading futures, options, cash currencies and other leveraged transaction products can be substantial. Therefore only "risk capital" should be used. Futures, options, cash currencies and other leveraged transaction products are not suitable investments for everyone. The valuation of futures, options, cash currencies and other leveraged transaction products may fluctuate and as a result clients may lose more than the amount originally invested and may also have to pay more later. Consider your financial condition before deciding to invest or trade.
